Quick trip to the Lakes

On the Saturday 30th I drove up to Wasdale in the Lake District for a quick trip. I had an interview on the Sunday morning for a place on a fast track outdoor leadership course. Afterwards I went for a walk up Scafell Pike.

Wasdale is an area I had not visited before and it felt a bit more remote than other parts of the Lakes I have previously been to. The interview went well and the course sounds just what I am looking for. After the interview I drove to Wasdale head. The persistent rain stopped, which meant I was able to walk up Scafell Pike and remain dry. Scafell Pike is England’s tallest mountain in England at 978 m. I only saw a few other groups out and I presume it was quiet day due to the rain in the morning. I walked up Lingmell Ghill to Hollow Stones, Mickledore and Scafell Summit. I descended by the path leading to Lingmell Col and then the same path to Hollow Stones and all the way back to Wasdale Head. The round trip was 8.2 km, 932 m height gain and took 3:30′.

The views were great and when I descended the sun came out. On the drive back I stopped to watch a windsurfer on Wast Water. This is the deepest lake in England at 79 m, 4.6 km long and 600 m wide.

A really beautiful area and I look forward to going back.
